Originally a Kansas native, I moved west with my wife Nancy and our two young children in 1995 seeking the warmth and sunshine of Arizona. We started in Tucson but soon found our way to the valley. I graduated in 1994 from Kansas State University where I did my undergraduate work as well. After originally seeing horses, dogs and cats I settled in to only seeing the little guys (dogs and cats that is).
I love the outdoors and playing sports with the kids. My daughter, Korynne is quite the little gymnast and my son, Garrett, has decided golf is pretty cool, especially when he out hits me.
I am a firm believer in communication and working with our clients to help keep their pets healthy. When things go awry, I try to help find a way to make them well again. Dermatology, Surgery and Internal Medicine are just a few of the areas that I have developed interest in since I graduated.
Dr. Satkus grew up in Homewood, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago. He graduated from the University of Nebraska (go Huskers!) with a BS in Animal Science. Dr. Satkus then went on to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine where he obtained his DVM degree.
Tom and his beautiful wife Kalleen met at the University of Nebraska in the fall of '98 and have been married since July 2003.
Tom and Kalleen welcomed their son, Luke Matthew, in July 2008. The family expanded in October 2010 when their daughter, Paige Katherine, was born. They enjoy watching them grow and all of the thrills that parenthood has to offer.
Tom has always had a tremendous love for animals and started volunteering for the local humane society on his 16th birthday. The Satkus' share their home with two dogs. Oliver and B.J. are both Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers who were adopted from the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America Rescue.
Dr. Satkus joined the veterinary team of White Tanks Animal Hospital in April 2009 after spending three years practicing in southeastern North Carolina. He is responsible for working with animals and their people in sickness and in health. He especially enjoys educating clients about preventative healthcare measures that will help improve the quality of life of their pets. He also finds it very satisfying helping a client make it through a difficult time when their beloved companions are not well.
In addition to seeing cats and dogs, Dr. Satkus sees reptiles and pocket pets.
I am originally from Las Vegas, NV and moved to the Phoenix area after graduating veterinary college in May 2009. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University, and went on to graduate from the Kansas State University College (go Wildcats!) of Veterinary Medicine shortly thereafter. Before joining White Tanks Animal Hospital, I completed a one-year rotating small internship with the VCA Animal Referral and Emergency Center in Mesa.
During the summer of 2010 I moved to northwest Phoenix and absolutely love it here! In my free time I love to be outdoors hiking, swimming, or camping, to name just a few activities. I have a dog named Tate who is a very mischievous boxer mix, and cat named Finnegan. They add so much joy to my life each day!
While I love all aspects of veterinary medicine, my personal interests lie in internal medicine, surgery, and nutrition. I strongly believe that the relationship between you and your pet is special, and something to be treasured for a lifetime. My animals are like family to me, and I treat each patient as though they were my own. I look forward to getting to know you and your furry loved ones!
